Standards
As an epoxy rebar coater Teme adheres to many quality standards as designated by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. Compliance with these standards allows Teme to qualify for Provincial and many Municipal contracts and to be listed as a designated source by the Road Authority.
The standards are as follows:
- ASTM A775. Standard Specification for Epoxy Coated Reinforcing Bars (available for purchase)
- ASTM D3963. Standard specification for Fabrication and Jobsite Handling (available for purchase)
- Voluntary Certification for Fusion-Bonded Epoxy Coating Applicator plants as set forth by the CRSI

Quality maintenance guidelines
Following are the key guidelines recommended to maintain ECR quality:
- Approved source. Buy from an approved source. Only buy or use ECR approved by the CRSI and the MTO.
- Minimize damage During transport, handling and placement, damage can be minimized by the use of nylon strapping, plastic coated tie wire and approved concrete vibrators.
- Storage. Storage outside should not exceed 30 days.
- Repair Damaged coating. Damaged coating should be repaired before shipment with an approved patch compound. Sheared ends must be patched.
- Bending. Bending of the ECR should be around the appropriate mandrel and where practical, at a uniform temperature > 15C.
- Thickness of the coating. Coating thickness is 7-12 mills from the manufacturer. Purchase a non-magnetic thickness gauge and periodically check the thickness.
- Continuity of coating. Occasionally ECR has tiny areas called holidays where there is a lack of continuity. Purchase a hand held holiday detector and randomly check the bar. Check with the manufacturer for an acceptable range.
